I’ve taken part in several markets here in London! Some markets feature all kinds of creative works across different genres, while others focus solely on jewelry. I always discover something new at each market where I can talk directly with visitors.

I use the lost wax casting technique — melting wax to create molds — and one day, a German parent and child saw my work and told me, “In Germany, we have a tradition of melting candles like this to tell our fortune.” Another visitor said, “Have you heard of the artist who casts ant nests to make sculptures?” and introduced me to an artist I hadn’t known before.

These kinds of unexpected conversations that arise from my creations are something truly special about meeting people in person at markets.

Next weekend, I’ll be joining a market in Portobello, a popular area known for its vintage markets. It attracts not only Londoners but also many tourists, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what kinds of people I’ll meet and what conversations we’ll have!

That said... since London is already slipping into winter, I’ll make sure to bundle up and be ready for the cold at this outdoor market.

ロンドンでは、マーケットに何度か参加しました！ジャンルを問わず様々なクリエイションに出会えるマーケットもあれば、ジュエリーだけを集めたものもあります。お客さんと直接お話しできるマーケットは、毎回いろんな発見があります。

私はワックスを溶かして、型取りをするロストワックスという方法を使っていますが、私が作った形を見て、ドイツ人の親子が「ドイツにはろうそくをこんな風に溶かして運気を占う習慣があるんだよ」なんて教えてくれました。ある人は「アリの巣をキャスティングして、彫刻作品を作っているアーティストを知ってる？」と私の作品から連想して、知らないアーティストを教えてくれました。そんな作品から生まれるコミュニケーションは、実際にお客さんに会えるマーケットならではだなと思います。

来週末は、Portobelloにてマーケットに参加します。ヴィンテージマーケットが人気のエリアで、ロンドンに住む人だけでなく観光客も多いエリアですね。どんなお客さんに出会えるか、どんなお話ができるか楽しみです！

ただ...もう冬に突入しつつあるロンドンで外でのマーケット、寒さ対策をバッチリして臨みたいと思います。
